Barack Obama’s Communist Mentor, Frank Marshall Davis

From Accuracy in Media - In his biography of Barack Obama, David Mendell writes about Obama's life as a "secret smoker" and how he "went to great lengths to conceal the habit." But what about Obama's secret political life? It turns out that Obama's childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist. In his books, Obama admits attending "socialist conferences" and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a "hard-core academic Marxist," which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes.

However, through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his "poetry" and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just "Frank."

The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

Trevor Loudon, a New Zealand-based libertarian activist, researcher and blogger, noted evidence that "Frank" was Frank Marshall Davis in a posting in March of 2007.

In Obama's own book, Dreams From My Father. He writes about "a poet named Frank," who visited them in Hawaii, read poetry, and was full of "hard-earned knowledge" and advice. Who was Frank? Obama only says that he had "some modest notoriety once," was "a contemporary of Richard Wright and Langston Hughes during his years in Chicago..." but was now "pushing eighty." He writes about "Frank and his old Black Power dashiki self" giving him advice before he left for Occidental College in 1979 at the age of 18.

This "Frank" is none other than Frank Marshall Davis, the black communist writer now considered by some to be in the same category of prominence as Maya Angelou and Alice Walker. In the summer/fall 2003 issue of African American Review, James A. Miller of George Washington University reviews a book by John Edgar Tidwell, a professor at the University of Kansas, about Davis's career, and notes, "In Davis's case, his political commitments led him to join the American Communist Party during the middle of World War II-even though he never publicly admitted his Party membership." Tidwell is an expert on the life and writings of Davis.

Is it possible that Obama did not know who Davis was when he wrote his book, Dreams From My Father, first published in 1995? That's not plausible since Obama refers to him as a contemporary of Richard Wright and Langston Hughes and says he saw a book of his black poetry.

The communists knew who "Frank" was, and they know who Obama is. In fact, one academic who travels in communist circles understands the significance of the Davis-Obama relationship.
Professor Gerald Horne, a contributing editor of the Communist Party journal Political Affairs, talked about it during a speech last March at the reception of the Communist Party USA archives at the Tamiment Library at New York University. The remarks are posted online under the headline, "Rethinking the History and Future of the Communist Party."

Horne, a history professor at the University of Houston, noted that Davis, who moved to Honolulu from Kansas in 1948 "at the suggestion of his good friend Paul Robeson," came into contact with Barack Obama and his family and became the young man's mentor, influencing Obama's sense of identity and career moves. Robeson, of course, was the well-known black actor and singer who served as a member of the CPUSA and apologist for the old Soviet Union. Davis had known Robeson from his time in Chicago.

As Horne describes it, Davis "befriended" a "Euro-American family" that had "migrated to Honolulu from Kansas and a young woman from this family eventually had a child with a young student from Kenya East Africa who goes by the name of Barack Obama, who retracing the steps of Davis eventually decamped to Chicago."

It was in Chicago that Obama became a "community organizer" and came into contact with more far-left political forces, including the Democratic Socialists of America, which maintains close ties to European socialist groups and parties through the Socialist International (SI), and two former members of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), William Ayers and Carl Davidson.
The SDS laid siege to college campuses across America in the 1960s, mostly in order to protest the Vietnam War, and spawned the terrorist Weather Underground organization. Ayers was a member of the terrorist group and turned himself in to authorities in 1981. He is now a college professor and served with Obama on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago. Davidson is now a figure in the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, an offshoot of the old Moscow-controlled CPUSA, and helped organize the 2002 rally where Obama came out against the Iraq War.

Both communism and socialism trace their roots to Karl Marx, co-author of the Communist Manifesto, who endorsed the first meeting of the Socialist International, then called the "First International."

According to Pierre Mauroy, president of the SI from 1992-1996, "It was he [Marx] who formally launched it, gave the inaugural address and devised its structure..."
Apparently unaware that Davis had been publicly named as a CPUSA member, Horne said only that Davis "was certainly in the orbit of the CP [Communist Party]-if not a member..."

While blacks such as Richard Wright left the CPUSA, it is not clear if or when Davis ever left the party.

However, Obama writes in Dreams From My Father that he saw "Frank" only a few days before he left Hawaii for college, and that Davis seemed just as radical as ever. Davis called college "An advanced degree in compromise" and warned Obama not to forget his "people" and not to "start believing what they tell you about equal opportunity and the American way and all that shit."

For his part, Horne says that Obama's giving of credit to Davis will be important in history. "At some point in the future, a teacher will add to her syllabus Barack's memoir and instruct her students to read it alongside Frank Marshall Davis' equally affecting memoir, Living the Blues and when that day comes, I'm sure a future student will not only examine critically the Frankenstein monsters that US imperialism created in order to subdue Communist parties but will also be moved to come to this historic and wonderful archive in order to gain insight on what has befallen this complex and intriguing planet on which we reside," he said.

Dr. Kathryn Takara, a professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa who also confirms that Davis is the "Frank" in Obama's book, did her dissertation on Davis and spent much time with him between 1972 until he passed away in 1987.

In an analysis posted online, she notes that Davis, who was a columnist for the Honolulu Record, brought "an acute sense of race relations and class struggle throughout America and the world" and that he openly discussed subjects such as American imperialism, colonialism and exploitation. She described him as a "socialist realist" who attacked the work of the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Takara says that Davis "espoused freedom, radicalism, solidarity, labor unions, due process, peace, affirmative action, civil rights, Negro History week, and true Democracy to fight imperialism, colonialism, and white supremacy. He urged coalition politics."

Is "coalition politics" at work in Obama's rise to power?

Trevor Loudon, the New Zealand-based blogger who has been analyzing the political forces behind Obama and specializes in studying the impact of Marxist and leftist political organizations, notes that Frank Chapman, a CPUSA supporter, has written a letter to the party newspaper hailing the Illinois senator's victory in the Iowa caucuses.

"Obama's victory was more than a progressive move; it was a dialectical leap ushering in a qualitatively new era of struggle," Chapman wrote. "Marx once compared revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface. This is the old revolutionary ‘mole,' not only showing his traces on the surface but also breaking through."

Why do you post that Obama was mentored by Frank Marshall Davis? Because conservative firebrand Cliff Kincaid said so? "Dreams From My Father" belies that claim.

Although Obama's book indicates "Frank" offered him advice on racial issues, Obama wrote that Davis "fell short" and his views were "incurable." Obama did not even visit Davis for three years before going to college. Obama's book, itself, proves that Obama did not consider Davis to be a "wise and trusted counselor," which is the definition of "mentor." But what creative definition can Davis be considered his "mentor"?

Lites who died homeless after selling 150,000,000 million records from his label Brunswick Records that also included the Chi Lites and manger and mentor Jackie Wilson.

It's a long keep secret that many legendary black musicians was keep from ever making money from their hundreds of millions of records sales in their legacies.

But what not every said is what happen during the legacies of legendary black icons like my father Creadel Jones from the Chi Lites and the Enchanters.

Mistreatment threw out the decades of my father legendary Chi Lites carrier is what played a role in causing my father Creadel Jones

from the Chi Lites to be imprisoned in the all to done abuse and mistreatment that Hollywood refuses to tell

concerning the deaths from abuse and racist cover ups toward black icons and the Chi Lites and the legendary Jackie Wilson and the treatment that criminals in the mob got away with to black

legendary entertainers like the Chi Lites and Jackie Wilson and recently the legendary Michael Jackson who where associated to my father and the Chi Lites and Jackie Wilson and the Brunswick Records label and CBS Label.

I have seen many different kinds of criminals in the entertainment field but none as bold as those who are the mistreated of my

father Creadel Jones founding member of the Chi Lites and an Enchanters group member. Seeing unheard of abuse and mistreatment

for instance a arm that had been broke from the gangsters of a criminal mob ring and his label Brunswick Records that had given a

threat to me and the Chi Lites and my father Creadel not to tell a legal district attorney anything about the abuse of Brunswick are the murder gangsters behind it.

Many people say that Jackie Wilson faked a stroke not to have to testify against a gangster that ran Brunswick Records letter he died mysteriously.

After my father Creadal Jones died mysteriously in Glendale California I and mother and two sister where mysteriously

contacted by founding member Marshall Thompson of the Chi Lites and Enchanters and I was told that my father Creadel Jones was dead

after I had been told that my father had been homeless and was in poverty. According to Marshall Thompson he had visited my father

Creadel Jones in order to get him to come back to the Chi Lites for a reunion but was told by my father that he didn't want

anything to do with it are Marshall Thompson are the Chi Lites because he felt our family and he was mistreated and abused.

After how my father was allowed to be left in poverty sleeping on the street and under a bridge who could blame him!!

In fact I was living in a shelter located in Rochester New York named Francis Center phone number is 585 423 9590 but know I am at the Cadilack Hotel located in Rochester New York numbers is

After enduring poverty and mobsters that impoverished my family from abuse to our legacy from the Chi Lites by my father

my mother attempted to contact Oprah in order to gain connections to entertainment legal representatives but was able to gain any substance.

My mother and our family went on to try to protect the legacy of my father legendary Chi Lites music group but my mother wound up dead

from diabetes and stress that
played ever part in declining her condition she went into a coma and died.

Chi Litesand Son Darren said...

My two sisters and their kids and I barely were able to even cover her funeral after the records company Brunswick and Chi Lites

singer Marshall Thompson promised to send 10,000 dollars from a deal that I had help create from Beyonce and Jay Z in which I was

lead to do because of the royalties abuse to my father Creadel Jones from the Chi Lites. My mother had gotten so tired of

being forced to endure royalties and mental abuse from exploitation of the revenues of my father Creadel Jones from his group the

Legendary Chi Lites until she told me that she could not continue to undergo abuse and that her health was in jeopardy from the stress

she had been hospitalized a few times from high blood pressure from the stress and we need to do something I suggested that I could

find someone to help so I went to Manhattan New York from St. Louis to talk to Brunswick Records owner Paul son of the original owner Nat former manger of Jackie Wilson.

Chi Litesand Son Darren said...

I had talk to Paul a few times before and always seemed to have conflicted. But I knew that her life could be at risk from the abuse and stress, so I went I was only a kid 21 are 22 years old. I had to live homeless we I got to Manhattan New York in the area near 42 second street are 41st street. I nearly got attacked one time at the homeless shelter. I went to talk to Paul at my father’s record label and manger Jackie Wilson label. I could not get in the ground I needed so I went on to try to find an associated entertainer

that could help. I was able to find BB King by walking down 42 street were the BB King Night club had been announcing a concert special that had been announced that was going on after I arrived. I was able to talk to BB King after I had talk to a worker of BB Kings I didn’t know how to put all the abuse that lead to the death of my father are the condition of my mother Deborah Jones wife of my father for over twenty years. But I explained it clearly and loudly as possible.

After expressing that my father Creadel Jones was a founding musician for the Chi Lites and that he died in homelessness and abuse in Glendale California I was shock are surprised to hear the reply of BB King he said Darren your father is more popular than me BB King. After explaining and hearing BB King tell and explain how he meet my father and his legendary group the Chi Lites I was allowed to leave empty with nothing other than a shocking compliment and BB Kings memories of my father Creadel Jones I left in tears and sadden even worse. I returned back to the Manhattan 42 drop in shelters. It was charismas month holiday and I wanted to surprise my mother by getting some help to get her and my two sisters out of poverty.

I decided to find Russell Simians because I felt that he could help and offer direction and guidance so I asked someone who was

formulizer with Manhattan New York how could I go to Def Jam Records Russell Simians Office Head Quarter located in down town

Manhattan New York. I left a message concerning me and my father’s music legacy from his legendary Chi Lites group and said

I would like to speak to him and my mother widow of my father Creadel Jones from the Chi Lites concern the Chi Lites and our legacy.

I was told to wait by an employee of the record label and I meet Jay Z and Damon Dash I had already typed a business statement up

stating the story of what happen with my father and the Chi Lites and an offer to purchases the rights from royalties of my father

Creadel Jones from the Chi Lites. Jay Z said he would do something in order to help but said he had to go to a meeting and left saying he was interested and would contact me latter about it.

Jay Z said he would do something in order to help but said he had to go to a meeting and left saying he was interested and would contact me latter about it.

Months went by and I was listen to the radio and heard my father’s song remade by beyonce and contacted the lawyer Jay B Ross

that was representing our Chi Lites revenues and was told by Jay Ross that Beyonce had remade a song named are you my woman by my

father and his group the Chi Lites and that a amount was paid over 370,000 dollars but was not ever sent to me nor any family member including my mother that I knew of.

My mother said she was not aware of any revenues from that song it sold over 19,000,000 and was one of the biggest selling songs in

music history and stayed number one for over two months straight and went platinum and gold diamond.

During this time my mother was left in such a state of financial abuse she was unable to even eat healthy quickly losing weight and

getting extremely sick from the abuse and stress , she was hospitalized and put on a dialysis machine and not giving too long to live.

She could not even drive with out throwing up out of the car. B time I came back to visit my mother Deborah Jones she was skinny and

had a tube in hear neck that had gotten put their from her arm. She was very happy to talk to me and see me but was very sick. She

complained about how she could not afford good medical treatment do to the revenue abuse and the poverty out it and was very depressed from it.

Chi Litesand Son Darren said...

I pried that she would be better and that I could find a fellow musician of the Chi Lites that could help.

I did thought it was the end for her if I couldn't find help to get her money for a better health care. I tried again to contact

Oprah even going to her studio over a half dozen times and writing in letters, until I was contacted by a Senior Producer for

the Oprah Show where I briefly talked to Alley Wassermann and told her about the abuse that caused father Creadel Jones to die

homeless and my mother to be sick and on dialyses machine, and was told that Oprah had interest and to send the information along with

the story of the abuse and mistreatment to my father and mother and other black legendary entertainers concerning this story and I did.

I sent contract s from my father record label and sales revenues statement from the sales of the records of my father and his black legendary music group the Chi Lites.

Latter I did not get any calls about the mistreatment and the abuse that lead to the death of not only my father Creadel Jones from the Chi Lites and the Jackie Wilson.

I have still contacted Oprah and left more information and details but have not been contact by Oprah. I even left a idea for

Oprah to create a program called O Ambassadors Originality created to help inner city kids out of their bad environments and give them new

experiences outside of their environments, by sending them to help others in impoverished third world courtiers who need people to help them rebuild their nation out poverty and a state devastation.
