At campaign rallies across the country, President Obama told his supporters that he "doesn't want to relive the past." He then went on to wax nostalgic about the bygone days of the 2008 Presidential campaign, when, allegedly, according to his recollection, many Americans said "you can't elect a skinny guy with a funny name to the Presidency", "but", the President told his supporters, "you said, 'Yes We Can'." Mr. Obama then went on to exhort the crowds to defy conventional wisdom [and common sense] and to vote the Democrat ticket in Tuesday's midterm elections:
