In an interview with Newsweek Magazine last week, Vice President Biden asserted that the Taliban isn't an enemy of the U.S., and said he is supportive of a reconciliation process between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
"Look, the Taliban per se is not our enemy," said Biden. "There is not a single statement that the President has ever made in any of our policy assertions that the Taliban is our enemy, because it threatens U.S. interests."
During a Press briefing on Monday, White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney, agreed with the Vice President's sentiment, and went on to defend his position.
Mr. Obama has actually flip flopped on this issue in the past [as illustrated in the video below, toward the end], but that is to be expected.
