Mohammad Reza Sabzalipour, the director of Iran's World Trade Center, announced Wednesday that Iran has been invited to attend an economic forum in Kansas City scheduled for May 19-21, the AFP reported.
The conference, dubbed, "Futurallia" is sponsored by the World Trade Organization (WTO). Trade boards from 30 countries are expected to participate in the three-day economic forum.
Sabzalipour said that Iran intends to dispatch a delegation of businessmen to the forum.
The invitation to Iran comes despite a series of economic sanctions imposed on Tehran by the Obama administration and the administration's ally: the UN. The aforementioned sanctions prohibit virtually all trade and investment activities with Iran.
"Considering the sanctions that are in place, the host could have opted not to invite Iran," Mr. Sabzalipour said, "but fortunately ... they paid no attention to the sanctions and invited Iran's private sector."
